Yes sexology is stigmatized field of medicine, it is very difficult even in the west to receive grant to make research even about “normal" sexuality. In some countries like Saudi Arabia sexology even doesn't exist. That why in this field lay people make judgments based not on science but based on morality, therefore when people talk about homosexuality or paraphilias this conversation is morally charged with judgments «what is right», «what is wrong». LGBT community also uses morality in the discourse about sexuality, the only difference between them and conservative social institutions is that LGBT uses liberal morality.
